When niecety #1 stayed over the other day, the topic turned to food. (it always does, it's a family thing...  XD  even though she's only six.) she asked why she only gets to eat organic meat at home and i told her that instead of being outside and grazing, cows in industrial agriculture are fed a lot of stuff that's not actually good for them.
"Oh yes," she nodded sagely. "All those sweets. I mean, they like to eat them but it's not good for them."

hairinmy

she'll be so fucking smart when she grows up. also a slob.

yesterday, niece #1 came by for a short visit (she's two days short of her sixth birthday).
glancing at my mountain of unwashed cookware, i thought i might as well use the opportunity to subtly exert some good influence. yeah, i don't know, either.
"hey," i said. "i'm hungry, and i want to cook something. but all my pots are dirty. what do i do?"
she pondered over this, critically eyeing the dishes, and finally said, "use a dirty pot."
oh yes, i thought. definitely related. "no," i said out loud, because raising a child is basically about figuring out when it's better to lie. "try again."
"use a frying pan?"
not bad. "um, no?"
she got it eventually. even though at first she thought i'd have the freaking *sponge for dinner* when tried to give her a hint, wiggling it in front of her face.
